For Immediate Release
5/30/2012

Two marquis shopping centers in Charlottesville, VA are undergoing massive renovations in an effort to modernize and expand. Owner, Federal Realty Investment Trust, selected general contractor L.F. Jennings to perform the renovations at Barracks Road Shopping Center and Shoppers World.

Following the successful completion of the Barracks Road phase 1 renovation in November, 2011, L.F. Jennings will continue with phase 2, which includes the canopy renovation and installation of a synthetic slate roofing system combined with standing seam metal panels. The 486,000 square foot center will also undergo a plaza renovation complete with new hardscapes, fountain updates, trellis and planter installation. The architect for the building renovation is Rounds Vanduzer, and Studio 39 designed the plaza makeover.

Shoppers World redevelopment consists of a canopy renovation including complete replacement of the existing cedar shake system as well as the addition of three new accent features at the anchor building of the center. Features of the renovation include an arched standing seam roof, synthetic slate system, new masonry piers and metal panels. Baltimore based, Brown Craig Turner provided the design services for the project.

Both centers will remain open during construction. Intensive traffic and pedestrian control plans have been implemented to ensure minimal disruption to tenant operations.
