L.F. Jennings Breaks Ground on the highly-anticipated Whole Foods Market Virginia Beach Store

For Immediate Release
1/26/2012

Richmond, VA.-

L.F. Jennings of Falls Church and Richmond, VA has been selected as the general contractor for the construction of the new Whole Foods Market Virginia Beach store. The leading natural and organic grocer currently operates nine stores in Virginia and will join the Hampton Roads community with the opening of its Laskin Road location in Virginia Beach. Georgia based SJ Collins Enterprises and Riverbend Capital Partners, LLC of Charlottesville, VA purchased the 3.2 acre parcel and are developing the site for Whole Foods Market. The store was designed by Phillips Partnership of Atlanta while Bohler Engineering provided the engineering services. Construction for the new store has an estimated exterior shell completion date of spring 2012.

"Details for the new location are still coming together, but we are excited to be joining the Hampton Roads area," said Ken Meyer, Whole Foods Market Mid-Atlantic Region President. "What we can share is that the residents and businesses of the area will have the opportunity to shop in a store that is custom designed for them offering the highest quality natural and organic product while encouraging economic growth, job creation and community engagement. "

The new store location rests on the site of a former Saturn car dealership at 1800 Laskin road. L.F. Jennings involvement in the project consists of the demolition of the existing dealership, site work and new shell building construction. The new 42,000 square foot store, complete with mezzanine will feature interior exposed beams and roof joists. An energy efficient white TPO roof will be dotted with skylights to allow for an abundance of natural light to enter the space. The exterior of the building will receive a mixture of brick, EIFS and Hardi-plank Siding.

Whole Foods Market combines concepts of a farmer's market, a gourmet market, an old-fashioned grocer, a custom-cuts butcher, a knowledgeable fishmonger, a scratch baker and a team of chefs making freshly prepared take-out meals all under one roof. Regardless of size, Whole Foods Market stores aim to be intimate. Each store is individually designed and operated for the needs of the specific community it serves.
